Swollen Face

A swollen face is a symptom of hypothyroidism with swelling seen around the eyes, lips and cheekbones.1

Hypothyroidism can cause myxedema. Myxedema coma, a rare, life-threatening condition, occurs late in the progression of hypothyroidism.2

A swollen face is one of the common hypothyroidism symptoms that people experience. A swollen face that is caused by low thyroid function is often referred to by medical professionals as “myxoedema”.3
