Heavy periods can be very
alarming for women and the
condition is more common
among those younger in age.1
Heavy periods are defined as any excessive blood loss
that affects a woman's quality of life.2 If you suffer from
heavy periods it may be caused by hypothyroidism.3

Abnormal thyroid hormone levels cause menstrual irregularities in women, and when levels are too low,
the heavy periods a woman experiences may be indicative of hypothyroidism.4

In hypothyroidism, ovulation does not occur
which increases the risk of heavy bleeding.5
If you are suffering from heavy periods, it is a
good idea to get your thyroid checked.
