Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction can have various causes but can also be one of many hypothyroidism symptoms.1

Erectile dysfunction mostly affects middle aged men,2 and studies have shown that approximately 59% to 63% of men with hypothyroidism suffer from it.1

Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is one of many hypothyroidism symptom

Erectile dysfunction may indicate hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). With an underactive thyroid, the pituitary gland in the brain triggers the release of a hormone called Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in larger than normal amounts in an attempt to improve thyroid hormone levels. Excessive TSH has been theorized to impact the ability to have an erection.3

Talk to your doctor

Treatment with thyroid medication has been shown to reverse erectile dysfunction in patients with hypothyroidism.

If you are experiencing unexplained erectile dysfunction and other thyroid symptoms you should seek medical attention and get your thyroid checked.
