Many thyroid sufferers will frequently ask themselves the question: "why am I always cold?". If you are
one of these people, a thyroid test can provide the answers you’re looking for.
The thyroid gland produces hormones known as T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine).1
Together, these hormones help to regulate metabolism, which is the body’s primary means of turning
nutrients and oxygen into energy.1 Heat is a natural by-product of this metabolic process. In
hypothyroidism, the rate of your metabolism slows down because your thyroid gland isn't producing
enough T3 and T4.1
A slower metabolism means that your body is generating less heat. This is why feeling cold all the time is
one of the more common hypothyroidism symptoms.2
