Constipation is characterized by an infrequency in bowel movements, which occur less than 3 times per
week.1
Symptoms include hardened stool, abdominal bloating, discomfort, and a feeling of incomplete bowel
emptying that can lead to straining.1 Experiencing constipation on a regular basis is a health concern,
which requires investigation, as it may be one of many possible hypothyroidism symptoms.2
If you experience chronic constipation, you should seek medical attention to determine whether or not
the cause is hypothyroidism.
If you are experiencing hypothyroidism symptoms, it is recommended to speak to your doctor about
getting a thyroid test done.
