Sleep Apnea

Waking up unrefreshed from sleep is just one of the many symptoms of sleep apnea.

It is a condition where breathing pauses and then starts again while the sufferer is sleeping. Factors that would put one at risk for this condition are obesity, enlarged tonsils, jaw problems, or hypothyroidism.

Sleep Apnea Is One Of Many Thyroid Symptoms

If you suffer from hypothyroidism, you may experience sleep apnea as one of the many possible thyroid symptoms. Sleep apnea in hypothyroidism results from an obstruction of the upper airway. The tongue can become enlarged, and protein accumulation can pull water into the airway causing swelling.

Talk to your doctor

Sleep apnea is one of many thyroid symptoms related to hypothyroidism. If you are experiencing sleep apnea, consult with your doctor to arrange a thyroid test.
